Fractions

Premiered at The Fringe of Toronto Theatre Festival (The Factory Theatre Mainspace) from July 3rd to the 12th of 2003

By Michael Reinhart

At what point in conversation do you have the right to hit a stranger
with a bat?

Photography collides with matrimony and catastrophe when Ryan opens the
apartment door to the single most romantic night of his life. His
amorous intent is immediately interrupted by Mike, a frantic
photographer who forces his way inside. With only the crack of a
baseball bat to signal the change, the evenings enchantment is instantly
eroded in a shower of under-developed photos. When the smoke clears (or
at least when the pictures settle) the audience is left to witness a
hostage situation where either party could potentially be the hostage.
The flaring of tempers ignite the conflict, only to subside to the
questions; Is Mike disappearing? How does one get married without a
perspective fiancee? And, if you’re allergic to cats, will these
allergies present themselves when faced by dogs without fur? Absurdity
runs amok, in this fast-paced comedy where the only answers are; Form,
Function and fractions of everything in between.
